This cute little pixie
is my granddaughter Emily. |
| As you can see a number of dust spots and scratches ruin this beautiful photo. | ||||

| Step One | ||||
To begin our cleanup of this photo, first use the Lasso Tool to select all of the dark spots (dust). "Make sure you are using the "add to selection" option for the tool." |
These selections could just as easily be done "one at a time" but making multiple selections speeds up the process. You can also use the Pen Tool or any other selection tool to make your selections. |
| Step Two | ![]() |
Select the AcuClean filter and choose the "Pepper"
setting. Make sure the range controls are set to full apply,
(Dark Range 0, Light Range 255) and click "Apply". |
NOTE: Like all "Acu" filters, the AcuClean filter operates at a lesser intensity than most filters. It also comes with a "Limiter" feature that helps protect the background. This means that you might have to re-apply the filter more than once and sometimes many times to achieve the level of cleaning you need. AcuClean operates at a single pixel level and photo images with a high pixel depth take longer to clean. (Images with a pixel depth of 72 ppi clean faster than images with 300 ppi). AcuClean makes this process easier by accepting a keyboard initiated re-apply without having to re-open the AcuClean user screen. For Adobe "Photoshop 6" and Corel "Photo-Paint 8" the keyboard command is "ctrl F" for Jasc "Paint Shop Pro 7" the keyboard command is "ctrl Y" . For other programs, check your documentation. |

| Step Three | ||||
| After all the dark spots have been removed, use the Lasso Tool to select the white spots or scratches. | ||||
Whenever the spot you want to remove is darker than the background use the "Pepper" setting. Whenever the spot is lighter than the background use the "Salt" setting. For example, pimples might be darker or lighter than the surrounding skin areas. Choose the proper setting and AcuClean will erase them safely. |
| Step Four | ![]() |
| Select the AcuClean filter and choose the "Salt"
setting. Make sure the range controls are set to full apply,. (Dark Range 0, Light Range 255) and click "Apply". |

The photo image of Emily
has been completely cleaned. |
AcuClean not only cleaned the photo but it did it safely. As you can see there is little evidence that there were any spots or that they have been removed. Results may vary depending on the photo used and the amount of cleaning required. |
